Is Emily right for Brad?

21 Mar

Another season of the Bachelor concludes in the gorgeous surrounding of an exotic location. For those that don’t know, The Bachelor is a dating show, not like those of VH1 or MTV but where one can find a true love and everything is very well planned out. For most, all it takes is one season on the show for the Bachelor or Bachelorette to find their true love. But for Brad Womack, it’s his second time.

Brad Womack returns for his second season and this time, he actually picked a lover. The first time he appeared on the show, he did not pick one of the two girls at the end of the show which infuriated many viewers around the word. In fact, one of the finalists his second time, slapped him as soon as she met him and said it was from all the girls in the world.

When Senior Sarah Morgan was asked what she thought about the Womack’s first time on the show, she responded, “I always liked him and thought he was really cute. I thought he should’ve picked between one of the two girls but he didn’t and it made me mad. I guess it was more of a publicity stunt than anything so he could be on the show a second time and get more viewers.”

At the end of this season, he had to pick between Emily, a 24 year old hospital planner from West Virginia, and Chantal, a 28 year old executive assistant from Mercer Island. It was rumored that Brad had picked Chantal but when the finale finally came on March 14th, everyone was very surprised to see Brad choose Emily instead of Chantal.

Junior Molly Snorsky, a strong believer of Chantal, said this about Brad’s decision, “Brad should’ve indefinitely picked Chantal. She is way better, way hotter, and way nicer.”

During the “After the Final Rose” portion of the finale, we were able to see the true side of Emily. She became very bossy, mean, and unsure of the future. Usually, the couple after the show can not wait to get married but Emily did not want to marry Brad at all nor did she want to talk about.

In the end, it looks like Brad Womack might be coming back for a 3rd season.

There were sensors onheadbands and on the top of the guns so that if an enemy shoots somebody, they will have two targetsso the game will go faster. The waiting room was in the commons. Are you a Gleek?

The Glee phenomenon is sweeping the nation. Glee, a fictional comedy-drama television show,is into its second season and airs every Tuesday night on Fox. The first season has recently beenreleased. Glee stars actors like Matthew Morrison, Lea Michele and Cory Monteith. They all havebeautiful singing voices and impressive acting talents.
But what exactly is Glee? Glee is a musical, comedy, and drama television show all packed intoone. Will Schuester, played by Matthew Morrison, takes the reins on the new glee club called NewDirections at William McKinley High School. The members of New Directions are quirky and provide agood laugh from characters like Puck, the hardcore football player, to Brittany, a ditzy cheerleader. Thegoal of New Directions is to win the regional competition but their adventure is hindered by thepresence of the intimidating cheer coach, played by Jane Lynch.
Many people watch Glee on a weekly basis. In fact, I just started watching the first season. Ms.Skoog got me hooked one day last year in AP Spanish. This was after the AP and final exam so we did nothave much to do. Ms. Skoog was hyping up Glee to Kyle Larson and I so we decided to take time andwatch it. Believe me, it was not our first choice at the time. But as soon as the bell rang, Kyle and I didnot want to leave the room because the first episode wasn’t over. From that day, Ms. Skoog and I kept acountdown to the day that the first season would come out on DVD.
People have different opinions of Glee. Some of the hardcore fans, like Emily Franceschina, livesand dies by Glee. She watches Glee every Tuesday. When asked who her favorite character was andwhy, she responded, “My favorite character has to be Quinn. She is just so nice and cute at the end ofthe first season. I can’t exactly tell you what happens but it’s just so cute.” Quinn is the captain of thecheerleaders and she joins glee club to sing with her boyfriend, Finn. Emily Franceschina really knowsher Glee characters.
Michael Rambaldini, a senior, was asked the same question. Michael went with a moremasculine answer and replied, “I would have to say Puck because he’s a thug but he has a sensitiveside.” Puck is the typical football jock/bully who joins Glee club to be with Quinn. Michael said he lovedGlee and he is mad that Puck changed his hairstyle.
Jared Schattenkerk, a sophomore, watched Glee with his sister one time. When asked what hisfirst impression of Glee was, he replied, “Eh, it was an alright show considering it is based on a musical.”Jared, known for his manliness, does manly things like play football and change his tire at random timesof the evening. Jared doesn’t have time for silly television shows.
I have yet to hear a negative comment about Glee. Glee is one of those shows where it’s funnyand once you start watching it, you’re hooked. Overall, don’t miss out on Glee. To start from thebeginning, go out and buy the show at your local Target or Best Buy. If you need to know when to watchthe new season, you can usually find it on Hulu.com, as Ms. Skoog often does, or you can watch newepisodes every Tuesday night on Fox.

Inception and King’s Speech kill it at Oscars

5 Mar

February 27th at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California, thousands of people come to watch the Academy awards. The Kodak Theatre is the permanent home of the Academy Awards, the oldest award ceremony in media. It is televised in over 200 countries and it is always a big event each year. Each year, the biggest names in the film industry are nominated for different categories like Best Picture, Best Male or Female Leading Actor and Best Director.

This year, the Oscars were hosted by James Franco and Anne Hathaway. They were a very dynamic duo who brought a lot of laughter and fun to the stage. James Franco was also nominated for Best Lead Actor for his work in the movie, 127 Hours.

Colin Firth took home the award for Best Male Lead for his performance in the King’s Speech. The King’s Speech took home four Oscars Sunday night with victories in Best Picture, Best Actor, Acheivement in Directing,  and Best Original Screenplay.

In case you haven’t heard (and many people haven’t), the King’s Speech is about King George VI of Britain who overcomes a speech impediment. After his brother leaves the throne, George VI assumes the position as king but people believe him to be unfit. He works with a speech therapist who helps him overcome his speech impediment and lead the country.

Along with the King’s Speech, Inception also won four awards. Inception won in Cinemotography, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing, and Visual Effects. Inception is known for it’s amazing cinemotography and fantastic visual effects so these wins were a no-brainer.

The Social Network won three different academy awards as well. Jesse Eisenberg was nominated for Best Male Actor in a Leading Role for his role as Mark Zuckerberg but fell short to Colin Firth. Though they didn’t take home Best Male Lead, they won awards for Film Editing, Adapted Screenplay, and Original Score.

Overall, the big winners of the Oscars with a score of four awards each were The King’s Speech and Inception. The Social Network came as a close second with three awards.  The Oscars provided viewers with an interesting and fun filled evening.

Twilight vs. Harry Potter

1 Mar

Ever since 2005, there has a been a battle between the Werewolves and Vampires of Twilight and the Witches, Wizards, and other mythical creatures of Harry Potter. To some, Twilight versus Harry Potter is not even a battle worth talking about. But what exactly makes these two series so unique?

Twilight is a series of four books written by Stephenie Meyer. The story is about an average human girl named Bella Swan who falls for a 104-year-old vampire named Edward Cullens. They face different tribulations in Forks, Washington like other vampires and Bella’s other lover, a werewolf named Jacob Black.

The first book was released in 2005 and won multiple awards; most notably the Children’s Book of the Year award at the British Book Awards. They have also won Favorite Book Series at the 2009 Kid’s Choice Awards. The first Twilight film was adapted into a movie in 2008 with Kristen Stewart playing Bella Swan, Robert Pattinson playing Edward Cullens, and (the dreamy) Taylor Lautner playing Jacob Black. After the success of the first movie, the second and third movies came out the following years.

Senior Shannon Heric was asked to comment on Twilight considering she is a huge fan. She said, “I really love the series because there is a lot of love and action. Stephenie Meyer really knows how to get her reader’s attention by describing how manly and amazing both Jacob and Edward are.”

The famous Harry Potter Series is a seven book series written by J.K. Rowling. She has won multiple awards for the series, sold over 400 million copies and it has been translated into sixty-seven languages. The series has been immensely popular and has been adapted into films, the final film coming out this summer. These films have been on the top ranks of box hits and have been on the list of highest-grossing films worldwide.

The story of Harry Potter is well known. Harry Potter, a young wizard, faces the trials and tribulations of growing up with an evil, dark wizard trying to destroy him in every book. Harry Potter also has many friends that help him out, such as Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger and Albus Dumbledore. The film has had four different directors, Chris Columbus, Alfonso Cuaron, Mike Newell and David Yates. Daniel Radcliffe stars as Harry Potter, with Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley, and Emma Watson as Hermione Granger.

When Senior Michael Hill was asked which he enjoyed more, he responded, “Well I don’t really care for either much. I love watching Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson duking out shirtless though but I also love to watch Harry Potter battle evil with his magic powers. It’s a hard debate. But if I had to choose one I would pick Harry Potter. But go Team Jacob!”

Junior Molly Snorsky was also asked who would win between Twilight and Harry Potter. Molly Snorsky responded, “Well considering I have seen both series over 30 times, I would say I am an expert on both subjects. Ever since Harry Potter first came out, I have been a Potter fan and I have read all the books and watched all the movies so I would say Harry Potter wins only because I have a huge crush on Rupert Grint and Draco Malfoy. I mean, Taylor Lautner is really hot too but I am a sucker for wizards.”

Even though Twilight has many good actors, Harry Potter wins in the end. Twilight has werewolves, vampires and love while Harry Potter has these and more. This just further proves the superiority of J.K. Rowling and her imagination.
